Durrow Brooch

40.00

Our Durrow brooch design was taken from an illustration in the 7th century Book of Durrow, now in the Trinity College Library, Dublin Ireland. The Book of Durrow is an illuminated manuscript in the Insular style made either at Durrow Abbey near Durrow in County Offaly Ireland, or in Northumbria in Northern England. It may be the oldest known complete illuminated gospel from Ireland or Britain.

Our Durrow brooches are made of brass and measures 2 7/8 inches (7.7 cm) in diameter (including the lip). They are etched while flat and then deeply domed in our shop. Sturdy handmade stainless steel pins are then hard soldered to the back of the brooch to make a brooch capable of holding the heaviest of cloaks.
